The Buffett Portfolio from the standpoint of Warren Buffett himself is the most transparent portfolio in the history of fund management. His personal portfolio contains primarily his shares in Berkshire Hathaway and Berkshires portfolio contains over 70 fabulous companies focused in four industry themes including insurance, regulated utilities, investee securities and manufacturing and services.
As incredible as the portfolio of companies he's amassed is, it is my opinion that the portfolio that he will leave the world with to be revered for years after the company he built is long gone are the magnificent business and investment gems hidden in plain site inside the Shareholder Letters. Beginning with the partnerships of the 50's and 60's and continuing with Berkshire Hathaway from 1970 until the present, never has there been a body of business writing so critical to investment and corporate success than the folksy prose of Warren Buffett's letters to his cherished partners. What I am going to attempt with these publicly available letters is to highlight the sections and lessons that have impacted me most from my learnings as a lifetime entrepreneur and CEO. To add some humor and homage to the incredible financial performance Mr. Buffett was able to achieve, I will also update my investment (non-performance?) weekly, monthly and at the end of each calendar year for your comedic pleasure.
Without further adieu I present you - The Buffett Portfolio.
One last important note for all readers. Each and every opinion in this blog is my own and any of the sections from the letters added to the blog will be italicized to acknowledge the author. I have never had the pleasure of meeting Warren Buffett or any of the great executives of the Berkshire-Hathaway subsidiaries but would be thrilled one day to become a shareholder of BRK-A and engage in the Woodstock of Capitalism in Omaha, Nebraska.
